Writing Metric-Driven Resume Bullets
Recruiters skim for evidence that you moved something. A bullet without a metric reads as effort; a bullet with one reads as impact. You do not need perfect data — you need honest, specific numbers.
The formula
Action verb + what you did + measurable result + (how).
Weak: "Responsible for improving the onboarding experience."
Strong: "Redesigned onboarding, cutting time-to-first-value from 9 to 3 days and raising week-1 retention 22%."
Where to find numbers when you think you have none
- Percentages — conversion, retention, adoption, error rate.
- Money — revenue, ARR, cost saved, pipeline influenced.
- Scale — users, requests per day, markets, team size.
- Time — cycle time, time saved, launch cadence.
If you genuinely cannot measure the outcome, measure the input: "Shipped 6 experiments in a quarter" still beats a vague verb.
A quick gut check
Read each bullet and ask: "So what?" If the answer is not already in the line, add the number that answers it.
